PROXYCO Gallery presents Transit, a group exhibition bringing together works by Diana Sofia Lozano, Otto Berchem, Adela Goldbard, and Ana Mercedes Hoyos around the themes of borders, displacement, and identity. Drawing on the experiences of artists whose practices are shaped by migration and cultural hybridity between Latin America and the United States, the booth offers a multifaceted look at the human condition.
Lozano’s work explores biology and gender in the natural world, framing adaptation and mestizaje as essential to survival — and as a metaphor for human resilience in the face of constant change. Berchem dissolves the boundaries between the conceptual and the figurative, reflecting a vision of language and culture as fluid and ever-evolving. Goldbard employs imagery captured with military surveillance technology to probe how violence and control infiltrate human experience and transform our perception of the border. Hoyos, whose practice was shaped by New York pop art of the 1970s, traces how cultural influences travel and mutate across geographies — not only physical, but historical and aesthetic.
Together, the works in Transit challenge fixed notions of borders and invite viewers to reconsider human mobility, identity, and our constant negotiation with space.
