Marco Rountree
(b. 1982, Mexico City)
Marco Rountree Cruz’s artistic practice explores concepts of ornamentation, specifically the ways in which trivial objects can be imbued with new, “higher” meaning through manipulation and re-presentation. Through drawing, sculpture and installation, with frequent references to Mexican history and pre-Hispanic materials, Rountree’s artworks probe both the concept of “Latin American art” and the role of art itself. Rountree is self-taught artist. He is represented by Proyecto Paralelo (Mexico City) and Travesía Cuatro (Madrid).
